Created by Congress in 1987, the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program is the first and only public-private partnership dedicated to performance excellence. The Program is part of the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and managed in conjunction with the private sector.
The Program educates organizations in performance excellence management and administers the Baldrige Award. Specifically we:
- Raise awareness about the importance of performance excellence in driving the U.S. and global economy
- Provide organizational assessment tools and Criteria for Performance Excellence
- Educate leaders from business, education, health care, and nonprofit on best management practices
- Recognize national role models and honor them with the only Presidential Award for performance excellence and innovation
